Ahhh, Sugar Sugar!

Well, the opening of The Bakery is upon us as the days go by and while in some ways we are prepared for it, in others we are not.  There has been a lot of "trials" going on since my last post - some working, some needing more changes.  We have been working on a little bit of everything though and hopefully it will all come together.

From a "few" doughnuts...

Gooood Morning!

And we had a little fun with a mess-up too!  This is our "engagement ring donut" if anyone is looking for a ring for that someone special!  ;)

Congratulations!

Along with some tasty treats to go with your morning cuppa joe, we have some party treats we've been working on as well!  Mmmm.... tastiness...

So so tasty!

While it all looks so tasty, just think about all that sugar!  Haha, it would be a crazy sugar rush to eat all of that, but I have been super good at only eating one thing while at work!  And that is only as needed to taste the product!

This past week has had a lot of ups and downs.  There are a lot of tempers going and talk being talked, and unfortunately it not being done in the right way if you ask me.  People should just be honest and up-front with each other, it shows respect for those you work with.  But it is what it is, and hopefully it will all work itself out by opening day along with all of our recipes!

It has been very interesting to see who likes what recipes though.  We have those who like a denser cake or a doughnut with more glaze on it or those who only like raised doughnuts or want a sweeter frosting.  There have been some interesting garnishes coming out, my favorite being a candied jalepeno, which was not overly hot (since the seeds were cut out of it) and quite mild overall since the candy-ing sweetens the pepper up and just making it pure tastiness!  Mmmmm... if only I had gotten a picture before I ate so many of them!  Tasty tasty tasty!

Well, we have the weekend off, but we'll see what comes next week.  Hopefully we'll finally have some trial days starting in the early morning hours.  Not that I am not enjoying the later starts (trust me, I am!), but I am ready to do some trials at the real hours we'll be working so we can really see how people react and work when they are sleepy, lacking coffee, and trying out the actual days routine.  But we'll see what the next week brings, besides more sugar highs!  :)

So I shall try this again...

Here I go, trying to keep up with blogging again.  Well, this month I started at a brand new bakery (yay!) that will open it's doors (hopefully) at the beginning of this next month.  When I got hired on to work for The Bakery, I was super excited and could not wait to get in and get back to baking.  We started training and just preparing for opening (we'd originally) had an earlier opening date and I jumped in feet first and just went for it!  And now, two weeks into it, I am starting to lose my enthusiasm some.  Not due to lack of energy or lack of want to be in this business.  Not due to early hours (there haven't been any yet).  Not due to lack of anything actually baking related.  Mostly due to the bad mojo some of the others working at The Bakery's attitudes.  And these are main bakery workers.  It is just so disheartening to be so excited about this bakery taking off and getting in from the get-go and have others starting off so negative.  I am trying to stay in the positive, but the last few days have been the hardest.  No one is pushing to get going with this.  Stock orders were made late, we're still waiting for things to arrive, and no one is motivated to just get in and start!  We have been working realllllly short days, which is frustrating to me, because they almost seem pointless to go in for.

BUT, I am trying really hard to keep a good spirit about it.  I am trying really hard to go in everyday with a good attitude still and just push through and try to get us ready to open.  We FINALLY got some of our food stock in yesterday, so today is an organization day since we have such a tiny kitchen, it really needs to be organized now that we have some stuff in, because a disorganized kitchen is killing me!  I am glad we'll do this, and hope that it'll get everyone ready to come in the next day ready to finalize our recipes and really start cranking out some baked goods to prepare for our opening!  Two weeks til opening will go by fast, so I hope we are finally going to put in the hours and the effort to make it happen!

Here is to hoping that today is the start of The Bakery taking off and working hard.  I only hope the other workers are ready to start of on the right foot today too!
